The Peel Plain
Northwest of Toronto the Peel Plain has some of the last open spaces in the GTA. These vistas did not form naturally, they are the product of cultural upheaval. In the 19th century, it’s old-growth forests were razed to accommodate colonial agriculture. Now, the farmland is being erased by development. The paintings eulogize these artificially created, yet sublime, open spaces.
